Two local girls are making Winter Park (and beyond) a more beautiful place.
Being my own Santa means I get a lot of books for Christmas. One book that I gave myself this year was In the Company of Women which has women entrepreneurs on my mind. Recently, I ran into two women entrepreneurs in our own backyard.
Patricia Walker’s life on the farm led to creating a line of natural beauty products.
The first of the two women entrepreneurs is Patricia Walker. Patricia is a wife and mother of four who moved away from Winter Park years ago to raise her children in the country surrounded by farm animals. Although her youngest child left for college this year she remains on the farm. Five years ago she began making goat milk soap which led to the creation of a line of beauty products, called Board and Batten. After seeing Patricia looking healthy and glowing, I am anxious to try her products.
Patricia has a website here and has a blog in the works.
Julie Von Weller’s love of fashion continues in her new role as stylist and editor.
The second of the two women entrepreneurs is Julie Von Weller, also a wife and mother. She and her sister opened Thread, now closed, on Park Avenue years ago. After taking some time to raise her children, she has gotten back into the game. Her business, Freshly Cast, helps people edit their closet, shop for their wardrobe, and dress for certain occasions. Last weekend she dressed a client, attending the Inauguration, who looked stunning in a long red Zac Posen gown. You can follow her on Instagram or read her blog.
On a side note, Krungthep, a tea house in Winter Park, was the site where I ran into both women on a recent day. My good friend has raved about this restaurant for a long while. They have an extensive list of exotic teas and the food is amazing. Check out this local treasure – all three of them!
