Casa Gusto offers a fresh vision of interior design mixing pedigreed antiques with custom designed decorative accessories and bold colorful art adding up to a wow statement.
Casa Gusto arose from a family’s love and knowledge of beautiful homes and the contents within that make them so. The name came from a fitting Spanish word explained in the quote below from their website:
There are often words in a language which is not our own that capture a meaning that is precise; a feeling or description so perfect that we must bridge over and take from the other land to claim it. GUSTO is one such word in both Spanish and Italian that captures a vibrant feeling of taste and pleasure.
Although the store has been open in Palm Beach for three years, I have only now just visited. We stopped in a few weeks ago while in town for the Kips Bay Show House. It is located in a warehouse district in West Palm that you would not simply stumble upon. You must put it on your agenda next visit to Palm Beach. You will be so glad that you did.
There are incredible antiques inside, some being very important pieces. The juxtaposition of the furniture with woven matting, papier-mâché, and tole all made in México tone down the formality making it approachable and livable. There are also lovely fabrics, a cute print from Raoul Textiles, a rich velvet, simple checks. They have talavera also made in México that resembles Spanish lebrillos de fajalauza seen throughout Spain. Lebrillo is the name of the large pots usually white and green or white and blue. They were used to cook “matanzas”, a Spanish sauce, as well as for washing clothes and babies. This style of pot originated in the 15th century around Granada. This interesting post will provide more information about lebrillos and decorative uses of them.

As mentioned above, the store is the passion of one family. Cris Briger and her sons, Charles Peed and Augie Briger, share their charm and extensive knowledge with all who visit. They have lived in Mexico City as well as San Miguel de Allende. Milieu magazine featured their San Miguel home in their Spring 2020 issue. My favorite room inside Casa Gusto is their Bunny Mellon-inspired china room. This is likely everyone’s favorite room as it is so charming.
The open shelves allow them to switch out the plates to change the look of the space and highlight different items.
The celery green lattice makes a lovely backdrop to showcase their various accessories which hang from simple pegs.
Art is a huge component to the finished look.
Another room features the wonderful paintings of Catherine Warren.
The fresh colors and motifs of the art beautifully balances the age and solidity of the antiques.
CG has a unique way of framing old engravings or prints. Their artist paints the mats and frames based off of the patterns of old documents.
