Beautiful work.

Noel first came to my attention on Instagram. Her posts consistently have something that make my heart flutter. Moroccan lanterns, Spanish lebrillos, fabric-covered walls. Last fall I was home in Dallas and popped over to say hello to my cousin. There was Noel hanging the artwork. Turns out she is not only friends with my cousin from their New York days, but she was putting the finishing touches on the design of her new house.

Since then Noel has been at the forefront of the design world with her gorgeous home being featured in Veranda. The old Spanish Colonial house is located in the gracious Hancock Park neighborhood in Los Angeles. Then she was selected to design a room at the Dallas Kip’s Bay Showhouse a few months ago. Her space was technically a laundry room, but it was so much more. Red checked under-counter curtains hid the machines, elegant built-ins with aged brass hardware, framed dog prints, and books made a lovely retreat.

Noel has since moved to Dallas where she is making the city’s houses more beautiful as well as Hill Country ranches. Noel has impeccable taste so I was intrigued to hear her gift giving suggestions.

Texas-designed gifts.

The line Mi Golondrina has beautiful, multi-colored hand embroidered napkins and placemats made in Mexico. It feels special to give a gift that is not only beautiful, but also makes a meaningful impact on the lives of female artisans. Right now I have my eye on some cream linen placemats with wine and light blue embroidery.

I recently discovered the candle company Jackson Vaughan. Their candles not only smell wonderful, but they’re beautifully packaged. They have a Texas Collection that I think will make fun stocking stuffers for the Texans in my life.

You can never go wrong with books. My lovely friend, fellow interior designer Shelley Johnstone recently co-authored the book A Loving Table. The book showcases the tablescapes and homes of over thirty chic women and how they entertain. I find it so fun to look at the different aesthetics and approaches to hosting at home.
