Black artists in focus

Certain individuals, but focusing on black artists presently, were so talented that their work inspired for years even if their time was short.

A usual post was not sufficient considering our country’s current unrest. Instead, I am paying tribute to certain black artists who have enriched my life and that of countless others.

Numerous black artists have created music that continues to delight.

Sade was a particular favorite during the 80’s with her singular smooth voice and chic style.

Diana Ross’ Greatest Hits album played over and over on my stereo during late 70’s.

Willi Smith was a favorite of mine from the fashion arena. His line, Williwear, was inspired by the street long before it became commonplace. His clothes were casual yet of spectacular design. Sadly, he  lived much too short of a life dying at the age of 39. To read more about the talented Mr. Smith see here. He was unique, and I have never forgotten him.

My best friend and college roommate adored Patrick Kelly. After graduation, we took a celebratory trip to Europe. While in Paris, we had to track down his store. There she bought the chicest knit top and skirt in bright orange. Being fit and gorgeous she looked amazing in this outfit and still has it in her closet today. Mr. Kelly also died way too soon. If feeling the desire to dance you can view his 1988 Spring show here.

Yves Saint Laurent selected many black models to wear his colorful creations. The models were so glamorous with their beautiful coloring and exotic look.

Paul Williams aided in creating the architectural style of the early 20th century.

1920’s architecture is in my opinion the best. It is charming, appropriate, of human scale, and of excellent quality. The group of architects was almost exclusively made up of white men. There were a few exceptions. One was the talented Paul Williams. The lovely tudor above is his design.

Williams believed in designing for the exterior as well as the interior which was appropriate for the California locations where he worked. The Spanish-style above is both historical and modern with its upper story of windows allowing for spectacular California views.

Casa V Interiors has been and continues to be inspired by black creatives that make our world more beautiful.
