A guest room needs to be the perfect mix of comfort, interest, and excursion all rolled into one space that belongs to the visitor but also to the home where it resides.
A longtime client recently called me to create a guest room out of his daughter’s former bedroom. He wants the ultimate guest bedroom that has comfort combined with that cool factor of the hip hotels. To prepare I have been going back through my inspirations to pull together an inviting room that fits the rest of the house but is uniquely a room just for that special guest.
The feeling of this guest room would lie somewhere between stark and cocoon-like.
The finished room would be the result of mixing all of these rooms in a blender to even out their qualities.
My client would probably like much of the furnishings above in this Steven Gambrel room.
Patterned rugs for the floor.
Green is the color of Orlando lakes, alligators, and live oak leaves.
An outdoor feel brought indoors.
Simple yet lush.
Perhaps a green ceiling.
There has to be a bit of an edge.
Stripes would appeal to my client.
He has a great appreciation for a variety of art but particularly that which looks fresh and bold.
